Investors, don’t let Russia scare you out of the market

Opinion: Chances are that the Ukraine crisis will slowly work itself out

Ukraine has been in turmoil since February, when the pro-Kremlin president, Viktor Yanukovych, fled the country and a pro-West administration took over the government.

Not only did Russia annex Ukraine’s Eastern province, the Crimea, but Kiev also is losing control of the rest of eastern Ukraine, historically a pro-Russia region. Meanwhile, the European Union and the U.S. have begun to impose sanctions on Russia, with more severe sanctions under consideration. Tension is rising, and fears of a potential civil war and an increasingly intense confrontation between the U.S. and Russia have become the top geopolitical risks for investors.
