U.S. stock market’s ‘complacency’ is about to end

MarketWatch.com – I am the father of two boys, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned as a parent, it’s to be on my guard when children are too quiet. When there’s no noise, some kind of trouble is in the offing.
Lately, I’ve had the same kind of feeling about the stock market. The U.S. market just experienced one of the most peaceful summers in a decade. During the two-month span from July 8 to Sept. 8, there was not a single day that the S&P 500 SPX, +0.05% closed more than 1% higher or lower than the previous day’s close.
